Iron Abundance and Temperature Gradients in High Redshift Galaxy Clusters
Abstract
Galaxy clusters are the largest gravitationally bound objects in the universe, and full of a high temperature, metal rich plasma known as the Intra-Cluster Medium (ICM). In order to better understand the orgin and evolution of the ICM and of galaxy clusters, it is helpful to understand the presence or absence of gradients in the temperature as well as the iron abundance within the cluster. Here I have used over twenty galaxy clusters from Chandra and XMM to see if there are any discernable trends in iron abundance or temperature with core radius. The results show that, on average, there is evidence of some sort of evolution of these properties of the ICM with time.
